3 ways to take health and safety into your hands this summer
Summary: Summer is here, which means it is time for vacations, camps, and pool parties! But it is also the perfect time to think about safety. Every year, over 350,000 people in the U.S. have a sudden cardiac arrest outside of a hospital, and sadly, 90% of them do not survive.
Many people are scared to step in and help because they think only doctors or nurses are allowed to do CPR. The American Heart Association wants to change that. Anyone can be a lifesaver! Doing CPR right away can double or even triple a person's chance of living.
This summer, you can take three easy steps to protect your community. First, learn Hands-Only CPR by watching a quick 60-second video online or visiting a training kiosk at the airport. Second, check if your summer fun spots have an emergency plan for heart issues. Finally, you can join a local Heart Walk to help raise money and awareness. You don't need a medical degree to save a life—you just need the courage to act!
