5-Year Trifocal Intraocular Lens Outcomes in Chinese Cataract Patients: Visual Performance, Stability, and Satisfaction.

Summary: Cataract surgery can fix blurry vision by replacing a cloudy eye lens with a clear artificial one. This study looked at a special "trifocal" lens designed to help people see clearly far away, in the middle, and up close. Researchers checked on 33 patients five years after their surgery.

The good news? The lenses worked great for a long time. Almost 90% of the patients did not need glasses at all, and they were very happy with their vision. The bad news? Over half of the patients developed a cloudy layer behind the new lens over time, which had to be fixed with a quick laser treatment. Also, if the new lens tilted even a tiny bit, some people saw glowing rings (halos) around lights at night. Overall, these lenses offer excellent, long-lasting vision, but patients should know they might need a minor laser touch-up later on.
