9 Things Tick Experts Never Do Outdoors (and What They Do Instead)

Summary: Tick season is getting longer because of warmer winters. Experts say you should always cover your skin and stay on main paths when outdoors. Don't wear shorts if you're in the woods! Check yourself for ticks while you are outside and as soon as you get home. Take off your outdoor clothes right away and put them in the dryer on high heat for 10 minutes to kill any hidden ticks. Take a shower to wash off any ticks that haven't bitten you yet. If you find a tick, use fine-tip tweezers to pull it straight out—never try to burn it off! Watch out for signs of sickness like a bull's-eye rash, fever, or stomach pain, and see a doctor fast if you feel sick.
