A 125 million-year-old freshwater isopod shines new light on the origin of subterranean freshwater species.
Summary: Scientists have discovered a fossil of a tiny water bug, called an isopod, that is 125 million years old! It was found trapped in ancient mud in Lebanon, in an area that used to be a shallow freshwater lake. By using special cameras and light tricks, the scientists got a really good look at the fossil. They discovered it is a brand-new species, which helps us understand exactly where modern underground water bugs come from.
