A Bayesian-driven approach to identify racial inequities in longitudinal care delivery.

Summary: Imagine watching a long race, but you only get to see who crosses the finish line. You wouldn't know who was winning in the middle of the race! Doctors often look at fairness in healthcare the same way—they only check the final results. This study looked at when 100,000 older patients with advanced cancer started hospice care during their last 200 days of life. Instead of just looking at the end, they tracked it day by day. They found something surprising: even though white patients use hospice more overall, patients of color actually start hospice earlier. By looking at the timing of care, doctors can find better ways to make sure everyone gets the right help at the right time.
