A qualitative study exploring participants' experiences of the SCOPE2 trial: chemoradiotherapy dose escalation in oesophageal cancer.
Summary: Being diagnosed with inoperable esophageal cancer is overwhelming. Patients often join clinical trials like SCOPE2 not just for potential personal benefit, but out of altruism—a desire to help future patients. In this study, participants felt well-cared for and appreciated the extra monitoring provided by the trial, despite the added stress of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the study highlights a critical need: patients require more time and clearer communication to fully understand complex treatment options and procedures.
