A randomized controlled trial comparing static ultrasound guided lumbar puncture to the dynamic paramedian approach.

Summary: Doctors sometimes use ultrasound machines to help them do a spinal tap (also called a lumbar puncture). Usually, they look with the ultrasound, make a mark on the skin, and then put the needle in. A new way is to watch the needle on the screen while it goes in from the side. Doctors tested this new way on bodies donated to science. They found that the new way was faster and hit the bone much less often. It also needed fewer tries to get it right. This new method looks very promising for helping patients in the emergency room!
