An analysis of three dimensional changes to comprehensively evaluate the occlusion time, disclusion time, point of first contact and force distribution at various head positions using Tekscan III: An in vivo study.

Summary: Have you ever gotten a new dental crown or bridge and felt like your bite was a little "off" when you laid down or stood up? Dentists usually check your bite while you are leaning back in the dental chair. This study looked at 15 patients with new dental bridges to see what happens when they move. The researchers used a special digital tool to measure exactly how the teeth touch in different head positions. They found that fixing the bite in just one leaning-back position isn't enough. When patients moved their heads to lay flat or sit up straight, their teeth hit differently, sometimes too hard. The takeaway? Dentists should check and adjust your bite in several different head positions to make sure it feels right all the time!
