Anaerobic Alactic Energy Assessment in Short-Distance Maximal Swimming Performance.
Summary: Imagine swimming as fast as you can for 50 meters. To do this, your body needs a very quick burst of energy. Scientists call this fast fuel "anaerobic alactic" energy. In this study, researchers looked at highly trained sprint swimmers to figure out the best way to measure this quick energy burst. They compared two different methods, including tracking how a specific chemical in the muscles (called phosphocreatine) breaks down during the swim.
