Analysis of Risk Factors for Valgus Deformity Following Pediatric Proximal Tibial Metaphyseal Fractures.
Summary: When kids break their shin bone near the knee, their leg can sometimes grow crooked later on. This is called "knock-knee" or the Cozen phenomenon. Doctors looked at 91 kids who had this broken bone treated with a cast to see why this happens. They found that if the break is uneven, if the outer bone crushes, or if the healing bone pushes the gap wider after a month, the leg is much more likely to grow crooked. Also, if the smaller leg bone (fibula) is broken at the same time, the bending can be even worse. Knowing these warning signs helps doctors treat kids better and watch out for crooked legs!
