Apple responds to DarkSword spyware, the hacker tool targeting iPhones
Summary: A new hacker tool called DarkSword is targeting iPhones. It is very dangerous because it can infect your phone just by visiting a bad website. You don't even have to download anything! Hackers with ties to the Russian government are using this tool to sneak into devices.
The good news is that Apple has already created a fix. If your phone runs iOS 15 through iOS 26, or if you have an iPhone 17, you are already protected. Apple also sent out an emergency update on March 11 for older phones. If you are still using iOS 13 or 14, you will get an alert to install a Critical Security Update very soon.
To stay extra safe, Apple says you can turn on Lockdown Mode. They also remind everyone to use two-factor authentication, never click on weird links, and always keep your phone updated.
