Application of double-sleeve endotracheal tube in infection control for icu patients: a randomized controlled trial.
Summary: Patients in the ICU who need breathing tubes for long periods often suffer from poor oral hygiene, which can lead to dangerous lung infections known as Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP). A recent study tested a new "double-sleeve" breathing tube designed with a built-in bite block against the standard tube. The results were clear: the new tube significantly reduced the amount of bacteria and "biofilm" slime in the mouth. Most importantly, fewer patients using the new device developed pneumonia. This innovation offers a promising, simple way to keep critically ill patients safer from infection.
