Are pregnancy complications associated with conception methods in female same-sex couples? A retrospective, matched cohort study.

Summary: For female same-sex couples wanting to have a baby, there are different ways to get pregnant. Two common choices are IUI (using donor sperm) and ROPA (where one partner provides the egg and the other carries the baby). Doctors looked at 154 pregnancies to see if one method was safer. They found that both methods are generally safe, but the ROPA method had a slightly higher risk of early bleeding, early birth, and early high blood pressure (pre-eclampsia). This was especially true if frozen embryos were used. Couples should talk to their doctors about these risks when choosing how to grow their family.
