Assessment of CMV infection in allo-HSCT recipients undergoing LMV prophylaxis by using an implemented diagnostic protocol to identify active viral replication.

Summary: Stem cell transplant patients are at a high risk for a virus called CMV. A new daily medication called Letermovir (LMV) helps prevent this virus from making them sick. In this study, doctors looked at 110 patients taking LMV. While standard blood tests showed traces of the virus in many of these patients, a special, highly accurate test proved that only 4 patients actually had an active, dangerous infection. Compared to older treatments, LMV lowered the active infection rate from 39% to under 4% in the first 100 days. This shows LMV works incredibly well, and using advanced tests can stop doctors from treating false alarms!
