Assessment of dietary inflammatory index (DII) in a group of patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis treatment.

Summary: People with severe kidney disease often need a treatment called dialysis to help clean their blood. Both the disease itself and the dialysis process can cause harmful swelling and irritation in the body, known as inflammation. Eating the right foods can help calm this down. However, a recent study of 54 dialysis patients found that most of them (83%) were eating diets that actually make inflammation worse. They were missing out on healthy nutrients like fiber, vitamins, and good fats, while eating too much bad fat and cholesterol. The study shows that kidney patients urgently need better advice and education on how to eat a healthy, anti-inflammatory diet to protect their bodies.
