Association between smoking and anemia in adult women in Peru: analysis of a national survey (ENDES) 2023.

Summary: Anemia is a major health problem for women, caused by low iron in the blood. Some people wonder if smoking cigarettes changes blood levels and makes anemia worse. To find out, researchers looked at health data from over 13,000 women in Peru. They checked if the women smoked and if they had anemia. The results showed that smoking cigarettes does not make women more likely to get anemia. However, they did find that being older (between 30 and 49 years old) increased the chances of having anemia, while factors like living in smaller cities or having a higher body weight actually lowered the chances.
