AstraZeneca lung drug gets ‘surprise’ win in COPD trials

Summary: AstraZeneca just shocked Wall Street with a major win for its new lung drug, tozorakimab. In recent tests, the drug helped reduce flare-ups for people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). What makes this special is that it works for a wide range of patients, including current and former smokers, unlike older drugs that only work for specific types of COPD. By blocking a protein called IL-33, it stops sticky mucus from blocking airways. If approved, it could double the number of COPD patients who can get this type of treatment and bring in up to $5 billion a year for AstraZeneca.
