Asundexian Gets FDA Priority Review for Secondary Stroke Prevention

Summary: The FDA is speeding up its review of a new drug called asundexian. This medicine helps prevent a second stroke in adults who have already had a certain type of stroke or a "mini-stroke" (also called a TIA).

In a large study with over 12,000 people, those who took a daily asundexian pill had fewer strokes (6.2%) compared to those who took a fake pill (8.4%). The new drug also lowered the chance of heart attacks and death from heart issues. Major bleeding, which is a common worry with blood thinners, was about the same for both groups (1.9% vs 1.7%). Doctors are excited because preventing a second stroke is a big challenge, and this fast-tracked drug could really help protect patients.
