Avlayah Approved for Neurologic Manifestations of Hunter Syndrome

Summary: The FDA just gave quick approval to a new medicine called Avlayah. It treats brain and nerve problems caused by Hunter syndrome, a rare disease mostly found in boys. Hunter syndrome happens when the body is missing a special enzyme, which causes harmful stuff to build up in the organs and the brain.

Avlayah works by replacing this missing enzyme. In a study with 47 kids, the medicine lowered the harmful buildup in their brain fluid by 91%. The medicine is given through an IV once a week. It can cause side effects like colds, fevers, and allergic reactions, so doctors must watch patients closely while they get it. It should be available in the US very soon!
