“Awfully coincidental”: Review of US measles status delayed seven months
Summary: The U.S. might lose its official "measles-free" title, but we won't know for sure until November. A major meeting to check our health status was supposed to happen in April, but U.S. health officials asked to delay it. They claim they need more time to study the data. However, medical experts think the delay is just a political trick to avoid bad news before the November midterm elections.
Measles cases are skyrocketing right now. There were over 2,300 cases in 2025 and more than 1,130 already in early 2026. South Carolina is seeing the worst of it, mostly in children who didn't get their vaccines. This is the worst measles outbreak the country has seen in over 20 years.
