Behavioral and Dietary Strategies for Weight Loss and Weight Loss Maintenance Among Black/African American Adults and the Potential Role of Media: A Narrative Review.

Summary: Losing weight and keeping it off is a challenge for everyone, but finding the right support tools is crucial. A new review looked specifically at weight loss strategies for Black and African American adults—a group often underrepresented in this type of research. The study found that proven habits like portion control, cutting out sugary drinks, and weekly weigh-ins are effective. Interestingly, technology is playing a growing role; some successful programs used text messaging, Facebook groups, and mobile apps to keep participants on track. However, the researchers found only nine relevant studies, highlighting a significant gap. While digital tools show promise, we urgently need more research to tailor these modern solutions for Black communities to ensure everyone has access to effective health support.
