Beyond Refractive Error: Myopia's Exponential Burden on Retinal Health with Each Diopter.

Summary: Nearsightedness, or myopia, is more than just needing glasses to see things far away. As it gets worse, it can actually harm the back of your eye, called the retina. A new study looked at thousands of eye doctor records and found that the worse your nearsightedness is, the higher your chances are of getting serious eye diseases. In fact, people with severe myopia have up to 100 times the risk of certain eye problems compared to people with normal vision. Also, these problems happen at a younger age in people with worse vision. This means if you are very nearsighted, it is super important to get your eyes checked regularly to catch any problems early!
