Brackish knowledge: exploring the material, epistemic, and institutional entanglements of numerical modelling of the Dutch coast.
Summary: Estuaries are places where rivers meet the ocean. The water here is a mix of fresh and salty, called "brackish." Because these areas are not just land and not just sea, they are very hard for scientists to study. In this paper, researchers look at a computer model called GETM, which helps us understand the Dutch coast. To keep this model working, scientists have to mix different kinds of ideas—like nature and computers, or public and private work. The authors call this mixing "brackish knowledge." Understanding how scientists build this knowledge helps us see how we plan for the future of our coasts.
