Burden of RSV in Young Children in High-Income Countries: Incidence Estimates From a Multilevel Meta-Analysis in Primary and Emergency Care.

Summary: Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common bug that makes young children sick. Most kids who get it are treated at regular doctor visits or in the emergency room. Researchers looked at 27 studies from wealthy countries to see just how many kids under 5 get RSV. They found that out of every 1,000 kids, about 63 will need to see a doctor for RSV. Babies under 6 months old get sick the most. Also, kids are much more likely to go to a regular clinic than the emergency room. Knowing these numbers helps doctors and leaders plan better ways to protect kids, like using new RSV vaccines.
