Causal validation between 179 lipids and hyperparathyroidism: A bidirectional Mendelian randomization combined meta-analysis with mediation factors.

Summary: As we get older, a gland in our neck called the parathyroid can sometimes start working too hard. This condition is called hyperparathyroidism. Scientists wanted to know if the fats in our blood cause this problem. They looked at health data from huge groups of people and checked 179 different types of blood fats. They found that one specific fat, called triacylglycerol (52:3), increases the chance of getting this neck gland problem. Most of the time (about 90%), the fat causes the problem directly. But sometimes (about 10%), the fat hurts the kidneys first, and then the kidney damage leads to the neck gland problem.
