<![CDATA[Pharmacists’ Role in Measles Outbreak Response Amid Rising Cases]]>

Summary: Measles was wiped out in the United States in 2000, but cases are rising again! Because pharmacies are so easy to visit, pharmacists are on the front lines to help stop the spread. They are often the first health workers to see sick patients and need to watch for early signs: a cough, a runny nose (coryza), and pink eye (conjunctivitis).

If a pharmacist spots measles, they must quickly isolate the patient and call ahead to emergency rooms to keep others safe. Pharmacists also check if people need the MMR vaccine, especially travelers, students, and health workers. Since there is no cure for measles, vaccines are our best and only defense!
