Celebrating National Hospitalist Day: Four Paths, One Purpose

Summary: National Hospitalist Day happens on the first Thursday of March. It celebrates the doctors who specialize in caring for patients while they are admitted to the hospital. To honor the day, The Hospitalist magazine highlighted four amazing doctors to show how different this career can be.

Dr. Tresa McNeal uses her role to lead hospital operations and helped guide her hospital through the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Manpreet Malik loves teaching and uses ultrasound technology to help patients globally, even traveling to Ethiopia. Dr. Micah Prochaska focuses on research. He studies "fatigability"—how quickly patients lose energy—and helps write worldwide rules for blood transfusions. Finally, Dr. Nana Arthur focuses on teamwork and clinical care. She brings calm to crazy hospital situations and makes sure older, fragile patients get safe, reliable care. Together, they show that hospitalists are the true problem-solvers of the healthcare system!
