Clearance of Hepatitis C Viremia During Direct-Acting Antiviral Therapy Leads to Rapid Changes in Lipid and Lipoprotein Metabolism.
Summary: People with Hepatitis C often have lower cholesterol levels. When they take new antiviral medicines (called DAAs) to cure the virus, their cholesterol and other blood fats can go up very quickly. We looked at 60 patients taking these medicines and found that as the virus went away, their bad and good cholesterol both went up. Their liver health improved, but their risk for heart disease also went up because of the higher cholesterol. Doctors should keep a close eye on heart health after curing Hepatitis C.
