CMS' latest Star Ratings are here. How did your hospital fare?

Summary: The government just released its 2026 report card for hospitals, and more of them are getting top grades! The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) looked at 52 different quality and safety measures to give hospitals a rating from one to five stars.

This year, 3,203 hospitals were graded. The good news? 385 hospitals earned a perfect five-star rating, which is a big jump from 291 last year. This is the first time five-star ratings have gone up since 2023. Also, fewer hospitals got stuck with a one-star rating. Over half of the hospitals kept the exact same score as last year, while 29% improved their grades. Experts say getting five stars takes great teamwork and a strict focus on keeping patients safe from the bedside to behind the scenes.
