Combined use of intraoperative ultrasound and sodium fluorescein in the surgical resection of brain metastases: a preliminary observational study.

Summary: When surgeons remove cancer that has spread to the brain, their main goal is to take out as much of the tumor as possible without harming healthy brain tissue. To do this better, doctors tested a new trick: combining a special glowing dye (sodium fluorescein) with real-time ultrasound pictures during surgery. This combination helped surgeons see the edges of the tumor much more clearly! In fact, they were able to remove 100% of the visible tumor in 90% of the patients. Best of all, this method is safe, cheap, and doesn't require million-dollar MRI machines, making it a great option for hospitals everywhere.
