Communication strategies to enhance organ donation requests across cultures: a review of the literature.

Summary: Asking a family to donate a loved one's organs is one of the hardest conversations in medicine, and it becomes even more complex when cultural differences are involved. A recent review of medical literature found that language barriers, religious beliefs, and even the use of interpreters can unintentionally lower the chances of a family saying "yes." Families often feel less satisfied with the process when the requester comes from a different racial or cultural background. To save more lives through transplants, hospitals urgently need better training and communication strategies that bridge these cultural gaps and make families feel truly understood.
