Comparative efficacy of selenoureido carbonic anhydrase inhibitors and azole antifungal drugs against clinical isolates of Malassezia pachydermatis.

Summary: Dogs often get itchy skin and painful ear infections caused by a type of yeast called Malassezia. Lately, the usual medicines used by vets (called azoles) aren't working as well because the yeast is getting stronger and resisting the drugs. Scientists recently tested a brand-new group of chemicals called "selenoureido compounds" on yeast taken from sick dogs. They found that these new chemicals worked wonderfully to stop the yeast from growing, even in cases where the old medicines completely failed. This means we might soon have a new, highly effective ear drop or skin cream to help treat our furry friends!
