Comparison of three types of scleral fixation of the intraocular lens.
Summary: When the eye's natural lens support fails, surgeons must anchor a replacement lens to the wall of the eye. A study comparing three surgical techniques found that a "four-point" anchoring method—securing the lens at four distinct spots—offered patients the clearest vision and the best long-term stability. While a newer "sutureless" method was faster for surgeons to perform, it carried a higher risk of the lens slipping out of place compared to the four-point technique.
