Compassion fatigue in helping professions: a scoping literature review.

Summary: Have you ever heard of the "cost of caring"? For nurses, doctors, and other helping professionals, constantly caring for people who have been through tough times can take a heavy toll. This is known as "compassion fatigue." Researchers looked at 43 different studies to understand it better. They found that compassion fatigue is tricky to define because every job is different. Things like how much support a worker gets, how many patients they see, and their own ability to bounce back all play a big part. While most studies focus on nurses, the researchers concluded that we need new, specific models to help workers in all types of helping professions.
