Confirmed case of measles in DC as country faces significant resurgence

Summary: Health officials have confirmed two cases of measles in the Washington, D.C. area. One person traveled through Dulles Airport, and another rode several Metro buses and trains between April 23 and April 27. Measles is highly contagious; the virus can actually float in the air for up to two hours after a sick person leaves the area.

If you are not vaccinated, you have a 9 out of 10 chance of catching it if you are near someone who is infected. Early signs include a fever, cough, runny nose, and red eyes, which are then followed by a rash. The whole country is seeing a big jump in measles cases, with over 1,814 cases reported just this year. If you think you were exposed on your commute, health officials say to check your vaccination status and call your doctor.
