CPAP Adherence Does Not Affect Risk for Severe COVID-19 in Patients With OSA

Summary: If you have sleep apnea, you might use a CPAP machine to help you breathe at night. Doctors wanted to know if using your CPAP machine perfectly would protect you from getting very sick with COVID-19. A study looked at over 1,600 sleep apnea patients who caught COVID-19.

The results? Using the CPAP machine properly did not lower the chance of getting severe COVID-19. The risk was about the same whether patients used their machines all the time or not. What really increased the risk of severe COVID-19 was being older, having diabetes, or having other lung problems like COPD.
