CSF outflow from the human spinal canal: preliminary results from an anatomical specimen-based model.

Summary: Your brain and spinal cord float in a special liquid that helps keep them healthy. Scientists know a lot about how this liquid drains out of the brain to clean away waste, but they don't know as much about how it drains from the spine. Usually, researchers study this in mice, but in this study, they looked at five human spines from people who had passed away.

The scientists gently pumped a special dye into the spines to see exactly where the liquid goes. Using X-rays and microscopes, they found two main drain pipes: the liquid flows out along the spinal nerves, and it also drains into the fat and blood vessels around the spine. This new way of testing is easy to do and helps us understand how the human body cleans itself!
