Curcumin Inhibits Bisphenol A-Induced Fat Mass Gain by Enhancing White Adipose Tissue Browning via Modulating Gut Microbiota-Dependent Bile Acid Metabolism in CD-1 Mice.

Summary: Bisphenol A (BPA) is a common chemical found in many plastics, and being exposed to it can make people and animals gain fat by messing up the good bacteria in the gut. In this study, scientists gave male mice a tiny amount of BPA every day for 24 weeks. Some of these mice also got curcumin, a healthy compound found in the spice turmeric. The mice that ate curcumin gained much less fat! Curcumin helped by fixing their gut bacteria and helping their bodies turn bad white fat into good, calorie-burning fat. This shows that turmeric might help protect us from the bad effects of everyday chemicals.
