Deep learning models can assist in clinical suspicion of abusive head trauma
Summary: Doctors have a new tool to help spot child abuse: Artificial Intelligence. Bleeding in the eye is a major sign of abusive head trauma in babies, but it is very hard to see on a standard CT scan. Usually, a special eye doctor is needed to find it. Now, a deep learning AI model can look at routine head CTs and predict if eye bleeding is there. This gives emergency room doctors "super vision" to catch missed abuse cases and save lives.
