Detection of zoonotic nematodes in brown trout, Salmo trutta, an introduced popular edible freshwater fish in Australia.
Summary: Brown trout are popular fish to catch and eat in Australia. But are they completely safe? Scientists checked brown trout from a dam in New South Wales and found parasitic worms hiding inside them. They found large worms called Eustrongylides in the fish meat, which can make humans and pets sick if eaten raw or undercooked. They also found another type of worm, Contracaecum, in the fish's stomach. This study shows that it is very important to properly cook freshwater fish before eating it to stay safe from these hidden parasites!
