Development and Implementation of an Ambulatory Oncology Nurse Residency Program.

Summary: Cancer treatments are moving out of big hospitals and into local, walk-in clinics. Because of this change, we need a lot more nurses who are specially trained to care for cancer patients in these outpatient centers. To help solve this shortage, a new training program—called a nurse residency—was created. This program helps new nurses learn the specific skills they need to safely and confidently treat cancer patients outside of a traditional hospital setting.
