Development and validation of an advanced data analytics model to support strategic point-of-care testing utilization decisions in the emergency department.
Summary: Waiting in the emergency room can take forever. Doctors wanted to know if doing quick medical tests right at the patient's bedside (called point-of-care testing) could speed things up. They built a smart computer model of an emergency room to test this idea. The computer showed that using these quick tests for moderately sick patients saved a lot of time. In fact, it cut the total visit time by almost 90 minutes for some people! It also helped less sick patients get seen faster. The quick tests reduced the doctors' workload and made the whole emergency room run much smoother.
