DFT investigation of dye adsorption on pristine and doped graphdiyne: toward efficient removal of disperse yellow 3 from wastewater.
Summary: Industrial dyes like Disperse Yellow 3 are hard to clean from wastewater because they are tough and toxic. Scientists are looking at a super-thin material called Graphdiyne (GDY) to soak up these dyes like a sponge. By itself, GDY isn't quite strong enough. So, researchers added tiny bits of silicon or germanium to it. Using computer models, they found that adding silicon makes the GDY sponge work much better! It grabs onto the dye tightly, even in water. This discovery means silicon-boosted GDY could be a great new tool for cleaning up polluted water.
