Different communication strategies for disclosing results of diagnostic prenatal testing.
Summary: Waiting for the results of prenatal tests like amniocentesis can be an incredibly stressful time for expectant mothers. Doctors wanted to know if offering "rapid" preliminary results—essentially a quick look at the DNA before the full report is ready—would help calm nerves. Surprisingly, a review of the research shows mixed results. While one study suggested rapid results lowered anxiety, another found it made no difference compared to waiting for the full report. Currently, there isn't enough proof to say that getting answers faster definitely makes the wait easier.
