Distal protection of endovascular recanalization for symptomatic non-acute occlusion of vertebrobasilar artery.

Summary: Imagine a blocked pipe in your home that has been clogged for weeks. Clearing it out can be risky because debris might wash further down and cause more damage. The same thing happens in the brain when a major blood vessel (the vertebrobasilar artery) is blocked for a while. Doctors tested a new "safety net" method using a special stent to catch any stray blood clots while they opened the blocked artery. They tried this on 8 patients. The results? All 8 blocked arteries were successfully opened! While there were a couple of minor hiccups, most patients had great recoveries and no new strokes months later. This safety net approach looks like a promising and safe way to treat these tricky blockages.
