Diverticular inflammation and complication assessment does not predict diverticulitis in asymptomatic individuals.

Summary: Imagine you go in for a routine colon cancer screening, and the doctor spots small pouches in your colon called diverticula. Usually, these pouches don't cause any problems, but sometimes they can get infected or inflamed—a painful condition called diverticulitis.

Doctors have a special scoring tool called the DICA scale to guess if these pouches will cause trouble in the future. It works well for people who already feel sick. But what about people who feel totally fine?

A new study followed nearly 900 healthy people with these pouches for a year. Only a tiny fraction (about 1%) actually got sick. The study found that the DICA score was completely unable to predict who would get sick and who wouldn't. So, for healthy people without symptoms, this scoring tool isn't very helpful right now.
