Dry Throat Causes and How to Heal It

Summary: Ever wake up with a throat that feels like sandpaper? A dry, scratchy throat happens when your mouth doesn't make enough saliva. This can be caused by simple things like not drinking enough water, breathing through your mouth while you sleep, or dealing with allergies. Sometimes, acid reflux, smoking, or just talking too much can also dry you out!

To get your voice back to normal, drink plenty of water, sip on warm tea, and use a humidifier in your bedroom. Sugar-free gum can also help get your saliva flowing. If your throat stays dry for a long time or hurts a lot, it is a good idea to see a doctor to make sure it isn't something else, like sleep apnea.
