Early intervention an unmet need in diabetic macular edema
Summary: Diabetic macular edema (DME) is a major cause of vision loss for working adults. Shockingly, 60% of patients get no treatment in the first year after being diagnosed! Eye experts recently agreed that we desperately need better ways to treat DME early, before vision gets worse. Their main goals are to keep vision stable and lower inflammation in the eye. Doctors strongly prefer new, non-invasive treatments for these early stages, rather than traditional eye injections. Finding and treating DME early is the key to saving people's sight.
