ECDC increases activities as Ebola outbreak in DRC and Uganda intensifies
Summary: The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda is getting worse. Over 900 cases are suspected in the DRC, and seven in Uganda. This outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo virus. Right now, there is no vaccine or cure for it.
Because of this, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) is stepping up to help. They are sending experts to Africa and working to screen travelers before they leave. The goal is to stop the virus from spreading to Europe. For people from Europe traveling to these areas, the risk is still low as long as they are careful and follow safety rules.
