Effect of male age at the time of irradiation on the sexual performance of sterile Ceratitis capitata males: insights from remating female offspring.
Summary: Scientists use a clever trick to control fruit fly pests: they release sterile (infertile) male flies into the wild to mate with female flies. Because the males are sterile, the females don't have babies, which shrinks the pest population! This study looked at whether the age of the male fly when it gets sterilized changes how good it is at mating. The goal is to find the perfect age to zap the flies so they do the best job at stopping the pests from spreading.
